I'm trying to form a very small ensemble (3 to 5 people maybe). There aren't a lot of recorder players in the eastern Columbia Gorge (Oregon/Washington) area so I can't be very choosy. I appear to be the only one so far who owns, or at least can comfortably play, anything larger than soprano or alto. Even if I lent my tenor to someone, s/he would have to deal with the huge finger stretch.

If it turns out that I'm the only one who can play any sub-alto sizes, what size do you think would be best to play? I know there are a lot of SAT or SSAT or SAAT etc. etc. sheet musics, but this is done mainly for financial reasons. How well does a SAB/SSAB etc. ensemble work?

I'm also curious if NSAT is a good choice. I'm a bit worried that the nino would be too shrill but you never know...

Contact the American Recorder Society and ask if there is a local chapter near you. They have a facebook page:

There are ARS chapter in Eugene, Oregon Coast and Portland and Moss Bay and Seattle in Washington. I don't know if any of these are near to you, but it's a start.
