Hey, so I'm a new recorder player and I'm having a bit of trouble here.. I'm using the yamaha yra 314b plastic alto recorder.

I seem to have serious trouble playing certain notes, right now mainly the A and the G (going by the standard fingering chart)

I put it on my lips, put the pads of my finger on the 5 holes in order to play the A, blow gently and only sometimes I get the right note. 9/10 times all I get is some squeaky high pitched noise. I seem to not be able to do the G at all, that's always just a squeaky mess.

The problem is that I have no idea what I'm doing wrong and it's seriously frustrating. Beyond controlling my blowing and putting my finger right on the holes, what could possibly be the problem? I don't want to be That guy and just assume the recorder is broken.

That sounds typical for not having one of the upper holes well covered. ... but does the low F sound OK?

F gives me the same squeaky result. I tried so many more times since I made this thread but at a certain point I just gave up on trying it on my own. I guess I can try a few more times and pay more attention to the upper holes.

Yea I think it's a matter of air escaping through improperly covered holes.
