I strongly agree.
If you wish to be a singer or sing better, voice lessons are the way to go. Voice lessons really are necessary as we cannot truly hear what our voices sound like to other people. A good voice teacher can teach you not only how to sing better but those same principles can be applied to public speaking as well--A VERY IMPORTANT leadership/business skill to have in today`s marketplace (throw that at `em if they don`t like the idea of spending money on singing). Why, you/they might ask? Here`s some reasons:
-Voice lessons build confidence in your voice (you know you can sing/speak strongly and with confidence your voice won`t just die on you)
-You can speak powerfully without a microphone--nice for when the thing dies while you`re speaking--so you don`t always need one
-Build confidence in yourself--as you perform, you get used to succeeding as people praise you (trust me, they will!)
-Learn to learn--learn how to listen carefully to what your teacher (and really they quickly become mentors!) is trying to say
-Have an adult with whom you meet regularly who cares enough to there when you just can`t tell your parents something! (Kind of like a youth pastor... `cept you have regular meetings with them and you get more privacy--albeit, they`re not usually trained to be counselors, but they can listen and help you if necessary)
-Have a private mentor who will help you when/if you need it (e.g., my college voice teacher had me over for Thanksgiving dinner because I couldn`t go home to eat w/ my family!)
-Learn to sing better
-A lot more--but these were some of the less thought of ones!

I hope that helps you!
