Hi all.
My daughter is in her church choir and the choir director says she has some potential, but did not recommend that I put her in serious voice training until after she started her period (she`s almost 11). Well, one of the girls from her group, who is taking lessons, offered to teach her what she knew. I told my daughter I didn`t think it was a good idea...and the tears started to fly.
The choir director`s reasoning for delaying lessons is that it puts great demands on a growing body, particularly the female reproductive organs. Not sure how this works, but that`s the word anyhow. After googling the topic, I found another opinion that suggested waiting at least a year after menarche before starting because the voice is undergoing major changes. She said why waste time training one voice when you lose it and get a whole different one after puberty hits?
Any thoughts or experiences to share in this area? Thanks!
