I think very difficult to cut the vocals 100%. But I tried with FlexiMusic Wave Editor to remove the vocals from the song(Not sure 100%).

I have the same problem with The Phantom stuff. So far, nobody seems to be able to help.

I made a quick search in Google and there are several products that claim to remove (or add) voice from recordings. I have tried none, but it would be nice if we could join efforts to accomplish this if anybody else jumps in to help. Here is one promising link:

Well, the owner edit has ceased to function...

Sorry, I meant "In nobody else jumps in to help"...

I found a freeware tool called BestPractice, which I used once to suppress vocals and also change the pitch of a song. Though in the end, I found it very difficult to sing along with a prerecorded thing. It makes me imitate the original, thereby forcing my voice into something it isn't.

But the program might suit you. Here's the link:

Cheers,

Thanks WimW. I had posted my question long ago and in the meantime I have bought in Amazon a CD with the songs, with and without voice, so I solved this particular problem for the moment.

However, I'm sure I will need it in the future so I will try it, thank you.

Most of these SWs cancel the voice by calculating a difference between the right and left stereo channels. If the voice is in the center, the procedure will attenuate it considerably.
I'll try this and post the results if it works.

I find that singing along is a very good practise, however. It trains my ear to follow the music and I must be able to make the "enters" at the right moment, and also pick up a note in the harmony.

Of course the song or theme must be in your voice range oherwise you strain it or simply cannot do it.

The Phantom of the Opera songs are difficult in this sense, because several songs extend more than 2 octaves. The phantom's role is basically for a baritone, but he must reach high A, well in the range of tenors.

We plan to sing a duet at school (All I ask of you) with me in the role of Raoul, which is easier as the highest note is F, but it goes down to low A...
