wow i don`t think there are enough singers on this forum... its sooooo DULL! noone ever responds to anything... i think it needs some help... no i am not just here to rant, i actually have a question! lol does anyone know any good classical songs, i have to sing in a competition and i dont know very many, since it is not my genre. Just give me some names, im not looking for free sheet music, just suggestions.

One of my favorites is Ralph Vaughan Williams`s first setting of "Orpheus with his Lute" (from Shakespeare`s "Henry VIII"). I am also fond of his "Songs of Travel" cycle.

A favorite of mine although I can`t pronounce most of the words is Schubert`s Ave Maria.

yah ave maria is very beautiful but it`s a prett predictable song... I mean who doesn`t know that song?

Go for anything from Faure's "Requiem". Beautiful stuff! If not, then try a piece like “Zum Leiden bin ich auserkoren” from Die Zauberflote (or anything from Die Zauberflote for that matter). “Un bel di vedremo” from Madama Butterfly is also nice. The first pieces I learnt in my first year of group private training were:

Santa Lucia (a napolitan song), well known and not difficult. However it may pose difficulties for right pronunciation for english speakers.

Other easy and nice napolitan song is "La Vucchella" (the "small mouth" in napolitan dialect). In fact there are sevral songs of this type but may are quite difficult, as "Marecchiare". But if you can deal with that one, the results are guaranteed

The second and most beautiful Aria I learnt was "Ombra mai Fu", from Haendel's opera Serse, Fist Act Scene I. It´s impessive and "very" easy. I think you can still download the score from www.indiana.edu. There are MIDI files in Internet that help in learning the music.

For Baritones, I think something delicious and easy is "Che faro senza Euridice" from Gluck's Opera Orpheo and Euridice. I have the score that I copied from a public library, but probably it's also in indiana.edu.

haha .... flute ... kinda gives it away! lol um im a really high tenor! i sing soprano and alto.. yes flautists are multitalented!

I might help suggesting some pieces with the help of a friend that knows more than me about Opera arias and the like.

Only that you should first give an idea of the level of difficulty you could accept (or the level of your training).

Some of the suggestions you have already received (Faure, Mozart) could be considered "relatively difficult" Would you agree with this?

I've never taken lessons so my technique probly isn't that great. I've chosen a song since i posted this. It's called Se tu m'ami, so no more help really needed although i appreciate it. The competition i'm entering is for people who have never taken lessons.
