i was just wondering how do you know you are singing that low not to be rude but i have caught my self playing a note on the piano singing it and thinking ive really gone down that low but i did not. Did you have a (musically inclined)freind make sure you were really singing that low or were you judging your self.
P.S. i am a male and i sing slash play instruments with my church choir God rocks!

wow everyone has really good ranges here! this site is really new to me, but I love having the opportunity to communicate with other musicians like myself.

I've only been having vocal training for a year now, but it's mainly just a hobby although I'd love to persue it as a career but I have to stay realistic!

My range has improved a lot over the last year, my singing teacher says I can sing down to a D below middle C and up to a C two octaves above middle C.

Hope to get to know some of you singers a bit better, we can swap singing secrets!!

I'm 1st soprano.
I can go to Top D inhead register but struggle to change Key to G or F a little bit, takes a bit of practice - struggle with phlegm a little at the moment.
Then in my chest register I can go down to from A to Bottom G

My range changes over the course of a day. In the morning I can get down to C below bottom E on the guitar. If I'm off colour or I've been singing hard the previous night I can often get down to A below that, but by the time evening's here I'm lucky if I can reach bottom G on the guitar.

On the other hand my top note will have gone up from E, the highest open string on the guitar, to the C above it.

I can therefore claim to have a 3 octave range...

...just not all at the same time...

On a normal day I have a C two octaves below middle C up to a G above middle C. I can grumble down to the end of a piano, and if we're using falsetto I can go to Bb 2 octaves above middle C. The cool part is I've taken some voice lessons and the professor helped me realize I don't have a break in my voice. I can go seamlessly through my extreme ranges.

That's not bad! I can sing the B two octaves below middle C, and E three octaves above middle C.

I have a huge range, but it hurts to go too high, and I can't add vibrato to that note...>_< There's not really a point for me to go that high.

I have low D below middle C up to (sounding good) an A above high c.

I'm second soprano in Acapella choir, and first soprano in Madrigals and our Jazz ensemble.

Woa!! That is a very big vocal range...are you sure that's right? Coz I remember I thought I was singing lower than I actually was for ages!!!

I can do the first E below middle C, to the 2nd A above middle......about 2 and a half octaves..

Hi I am new to this forum but I have a question since you guys and gals all sound like your amazing good singers. I am going to start singing lessons at my husbands insistance, but I have heard that it is impossible for some people to become decent singers. Is that true? and is it true that your vocal range can improve or expand with time?

With use your vocal range can and almost certainly will expand, mainly upwards. Most people can sing, and most of them can be trained to sound nice, but there does appear to be a certain group of people who can't relate what they're singing to what's going on around them. For example there was a reality TV show filmed near here where they tried to make a world class choir entirely out of people living in one housing estate. One candidate sang superbly and was accepted immediately. It wasn't until he began singing with others that they realised that he had no idea of key, and was unaware that he was singing in a completely different key to everyone else.

Until I saw that I hadn't realised that such a thing was possible. However it's highly unlikely that you'll fall into that category if you're being encouraged to take lessons, why would anyone waste the money if you were a lost cause? Someone somewhere obviously thinks you're worth the trouble, so go for it!

My range is approximately E below middle C to C# 2 octives above middle C. When I was in middle school I sang strictly first soprano, but I had a burning desire to sing alto. Now, I ask to sing alto whenever I audition for a choir, even though most of the time, I am asked to sing soprano. With this range, what would you say I am?
