Hey there, this is advice coming from a fellow soprano.
I'm very proud of the range I have now... My singing teacher thinks the highest note i should be singing regularly is B (under high C). The idea is, i can certainly go higher, but it's what sounds best... and she doesn't want me straining. Obviously, i didn't start out able to sing that note lyricly. You say it took a long warm up to reach a higher note, that's a good thing!!! That tells you that it's better to have looong looong warm ups all the time. I'm 16, and i hope that by the time i'm 17 i will expand my lower and higher range. The key for me at least, is to practice often but not too hard. Once you feel a strain, you've already gone too far. I hum sooo much in school walking to class and doing work, and it's paying off. When i go home to sing, i end up singing for a really long time with no strain. My suggestion... work your chords in a higher range (softly) after a warm up, and cool downwith a mid range scale when your finished... best of luck!!!
