When you sing, make sure that you're standing with good posture - feet shoulder width apart with your head straight ahead. This position will help your breathing which will improve your projection.
When you sing higher, think as if you're singing low. For example, don't think "Oh no! Hear's that high note, I'd better reach up to hit it!" - this will cause your throat to constrict and tighten. In order to make your voice relax and therefore hit those notes more easily and with more control, instead think "This note is low" and really think about pushing that note down. This probably sounds like a load of rubbish, but honestly it really helps me, and whilst it may seem weird at first, keep at it and it will eventually become more natural to do. And try not to hold back (I know when I sometimes get to a high note I chicken out and sing it weakly) If you really go for the note, then the chances are you'll hit it!
Also, try singing with an open jaw. Imagine you're yawning or biting into an apple. This will help control the sound.
I'm not sure if you already warm up your voice before you sing, but I will just say how important it is, and how much better your voice will sound if you do! Begin with humming a couple of scales gently - it's the fastest way to warm up your voice. Then sing a few scales along to different vowel sounds (you'll probably find that certain vowel sounds will make your voice project better than others. Keep these in mind when you sing songs so that you can really emphasise certain vowels if necessary). Don't strain your voice when you try to sing these high notes - it will only damage your voice (so if I begins to hurt, stop.)
