BBC Award winning jazz vocalist, IAN SHAW and the world famous Premises Recording and Rehearsal Studios are holding an exclusive FIVE DAY JAZZ VOCAL AND RECORDING WORKSHOP.

This course will embrace all the vital aspects and curves that lead to a confident, creative and assured PERFORMANCE LEVEL as well as offering the students a unique opportunity to RECORD a FULLY MASTERED AND PRODUCED TRACK with a piano accompanist and rhythm section in one of London’s leading recording studios.

The first three days will focus on the following: choosing material and performance identity; developing a sure technique that suits individual styles; basic ear training; stagecraft and nerves; breathing and support; exploring your vocal range; counting in and good band-leading skills; dynamics and microphone technique; applying Swing, Latin, Funk and Rock ‘feel’ to standard repertoire; rhythmic and harmonic improvisation; singing the blues; good storytelling and connecting with an audience; the difference between ‘live’ and studio singing; basic band arranging skills and liasing with the players.

The last two days will focus on recording your voice with a trio in The Premises Recording Studio, alongside an experienced engineer, produced by Ian Shaw (production credits include Jamie Cullum, Charlotte Church, Marcella Detroit, Claire Martin, Gwyneth Herbert).
