Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had good tips on playing the low notes?

Losen up your lips. Thats the best advice I can give you. Make your lips loose. It`s the opposite of playing high notes. Instead of tight lips, do the exact opposite. If you have a trigger, you should use it!

You need to really drop your jaw while still keeping your lips even to get a good tone. My instructer tells me to pretend my lips are like marshmellows and let the horn sink into them while I play the really low notes.

Thanks for the tips, Rachel and fish88girl!
After long tones and marshmallow lips, I think I`m getting better at my low notes!

Remember though to keep air moving through, most of us put more air through the horn on high notes, but what people dont realize is that in order to keep a good tone on lower notes you need to play with air.

What I've found to work, in order to improve your high range, play low, and in order to improve your low range, play high. I think it has to do with giving you more control of your aumbesure... hope that helped!
