I struggled for three years with the Farkas system. I dutifully shaped my embouchure into the smiling pucker with the oval aperture & practiced my tail off on all his exercises that were supposed to develop a full range for me. But, it didn't work for me. I couldn't play notes above the staff w/o exessive pressure & I'd get dizzy & faint with every attempt adn was always running out of breath. I persisted day in, day out for years, all to NO avail. I decided to turn to the high note specialists of the brass world -- trumpet players -- for help. I found a unique development system called the Balanced Embouchure by Jeff Smiley & decided to give it a try. W/i days I was playing above the staff with comfort, ease and NO excessive pressure, no dizziness or faintness & air to spare. Initially, my tone & flexibility took a hit from the high note work, but eventually everything fell into place. Now, here I am, only five months later, and I can play up & down the full 3 1/2 octave range with a SMOOTH, CLEAR tone. It's a miracle. My private horn instructor is amazed. In fact, she ordered her own copy of The Balanced Embouchure & is using it to help all her students develop the range they need to compete. I've shared this program with several other adult horn players in the community & every one that has tried it is pleased at how quickly & easily their range improves. I highly recommend the Balanced Embouchure development system. It's written for trumpet, but it works for French horn, too. I have NO commercial interest in promoting this program. I only want to see other horn players reach their full potential. It's so thrilling to finally break through the range ceiling. I feel now that only the sky is the limit!
