I played the horn for about 13 years straight and then pretty much quit cold turkey, like an idiot, becoming preoccupied with all of the other things that go with starting the post-college life. I am now motivated to start playing again, but want to come back with a good strong embouchure in the long run so I can surpass the level I was at when I quit.

Has anyone else been through this similar process of taking off a couple years and then restarting? If so, are there any good embouchure rebuilding books that you would recommend or should I just stick to the old master class type lessons with long tones, scales, yadda yadda?

I am convinced that with some "correct" practice and discipline, a successful revival can be achieved... and even motivated to the point that I hope I can get addicted again to pass my previous levels of performance.

Any insight into this type of journey would be much appreciated.

I stopped playing for about 20 years ... I recovered my low register ability very quickly but the high register was another story. Ultimately I took some advice and changed the mouthpiece I was using and after some months I could play as well as I used to. It took over a year before my high register work became better than it used to be - with hindsight this was because my high register technique had been faulty.

After a break of a few years and (probably) being still relatively young, your diaphragm muscles should return within weeks. However, you may still benefit from some lessons and thinking about whether you had bad habits that you now have the opportunity to leave behind.
