I've played the horn for 3 yrs now and i guess im decent. everyone says the horn is much much harder than the trumpet, but after a month of trying the trumpet, im still having trouble with it. It seems to me horn is way easier than the trumpet. But anyways, I still need help adjusting. Does anyone have any suggestions for me on switching from horn to trumpet?

I wouldn't say "don't", just try not to screw your embouchure up in the process. I'd say it's actually a good thing to play more than one brass instrument. I played trumpet for marching band my freshman year and when I picked up my french horn again for concert my range was considerably higher.

Since trumpet is in a higher key, it'll seem harder to play higher, but it isn't. So don't think you're doing poorly and give up. For example: a french horn's top line F is only a trumpet's third space C.

I didn't mean don't play both. I meant don't switch from the Horn to the the Trumpet.

Horn gives you so many more opportunities. So give it up to go to trumpet.

I dont yet know that much about horn playing but I have played trumpet for about 10 years and from seeing horn players vs trumpeters I can say one thing that looks different right away is horn players seem much more relaxed and it just seems like it takes much less effort to get what you want done. On the other hand trumpet playing takes a lot of energy from mid to upper range and this might be where your having trouble you might need to work on your lung exersizing giving more air, and then your embochure for a tighter bored instrument might need some work.

dont worry man, trumpet is ALLOT easyer, i played trumpet for 3 years befor i switched to horn and it was hard, horn to trumpet should be easy,

I started out as a horn player but I played trumpet in my high school jazz band.

I found the notes way eisier to hit, I just needed a general idea about where my embachure needed to be and I hit the note, but higher notes where more difficult for me at first on a trumpet than on a horn.

My resoning on this is a horns partials between notes are WAY closer together than a trumpets. Imagine a trumpets note partial as an inch on a ruler...a horns is more like a milimeter.

The horn takes may take more air to hit a high note, but it also takes alot of fine control of your embachre to get the right note. (why so many noobie players have such a hard time hitting the correct note, and why glisses are so much easier to perform on a horn than a trumpet)

The tumpet doesn't take the fine control to diffrientiate between notes, or the air to play a high note. but it does take alot of lip muscle.

As a horn player you have more systativity in your lips, but not the muscle. Focus on doing lip muscle exercises to make those trumpet high note possilbe.

That is if you insiste on goign to the darkside...lol

I actually started on trumpet a couple years back (playing piano, violin, and woodwinds beforehand) and I very shortly thereafter picked up horn, and I found that getting a better tone on trumpet was incredibly more difficult than on horn. As far as range issues, I have very thin lips, so my low range is weak on horn, but I can play extra high; I can play almost as high on horn as I can on trumpet.

Of course accuracy is a little harder on horn, as it is easier to hit wrong notes, but inaccuracy on trumpet means a lack of tone center, and while my accuracy on horn is fine, my trumpet tone is very hard to keep up. I think the problem is that I like the horn mouthpiece, the trumpet mouthpiece is too shallow for my tastes and I have a difficult adapting to it. This is of course on a person-to-person basis, nothing is general.
