hi, i need to do a glissando in one of my pieces and i was wondering if anyone had any good tips. I am origionally a trumpet player so i tried the same technique that i use on the trumpet but it doesn't sound very good. Any help would be appriciated (Sp?). Thanks.

Glissando's are an 'Effect'. You want to hear the begining note and the ending note, the rucus in between does not nee dto be accurate.

How do you do your glissandos on your trumpet?

When doing a glissando I avoid the 1st valve and use the 2nd and 3rd to do the 'effect'. Usually 2-0-2-0-2/3-0-x (x being the target note). If you are going from the F horn to the Bb horn I engage the change valve rather soon in the glissando.

thanks john.

On trumpet i push down the valves of the starting note then slowly push down the remaining ones to about half way. I find that it bends the note and does the job.

Thanks for the help.

Ah, on Horn you do almost the same thing. But you have to wiggle the valves quickly. Moving them slow doesn't sound good, but moving them fast will give you the correct effect. (And it doesn't matter which valve so long as your starting note and ending note are correct.
