I just can't get enough of this guy's sound. I don't know how many times I've listened to this. It's sooooo smooth and sweet. He's creating this gorgeous rich sound on a little descant horn, a Holton 200. Isn't that amazing?
I've heard other descants that sound like cornets, but not this. Is it the horn or the hornist or both to creates this rull rich sound?
Hoenstly, I think there is a lot of processing in the post production. But it's still nice playing.
Patterson has a kick descant with a fuller darker sound. He's made 12 of them so far I think. I got to play one during a weekend last May. Very silky dark tone. There's also a guy in North Carolina who does a major modification with the H200 valve section that sounds like a full double up there. I got to play that for a weekend and almost bought it, except I bought my C horn instead.
Still nice playing on this one. I wonder how much is post production and if doesn't have a de Haro pipe on that horn; or something similar. Thanks for sharing it.
