Hey everyone so ive been playin the horn for maybe about 3 years. I started playing trumpet but then changed my sophmore year in highschool. After i fell in absolute love with the instrument I was placed first chair horn in my regions honor band. Now im in college persuing my education in music and i need a horn in order to get into a certain university. So my question is what is a good brand horn that will last a good while but also produces amazing sound. Thank you in advance =)

The standard horn used to be the Conn 8D for entrance professional level. They're still okay, but not nearly what they used to be since they moved their production to Mexico. What I bought going into University was the Hoyer 6802. It's based on the same Kruspe wrap as the Conn 8D, but is way higher quality (made in West Germany). The valves are beautiful and durable, and it has a large 12.205'' bell that gives it a deep and rich sound. If you're willing to invest a little more cash, the 7802 is brilliant. Take care of either of these horns and they'll last you a career.

HI Tyler- Boy, are you going to have fun, shopping for a new horn (or good used one). I just finished a long search for a new horn about a year ago now and I am 60+. I did lots of looking, talking to people, researching, etc. My advice, find yourself a good player, a pro if you can or a good horn teacher to help you narrow down your choices. I found there are alot of good horns out there these days and it all depends on your state of playing, what you want, like and of course how much $$ you have to spend. You can find a decent to excellent double horn anywhere from $1000 used to $10,000 for a new E Schmid, with lots in between. Good luck and above all, have fun )
