I'm in the process of looking for a horn, second horn in on consignment, hopefully to raise some funds towards the new one. The funds aren't yet in but I'd love to get some opinions. The horns that interest me I'm seeing in my price range would be:
Alexander 102st
CF Schmidt
or a Paxman Alexander 103 copy with no compression

What horn(s) are you coming from playing? Off the bat, though, I would say the Schmidt is the best one listed. There's a lot to like about Schmidts, if you can get over the awkward thumb piston.

I'm consigning an 8D I found completely unstable. I play a vintage custom Holton 181. It was ordered with fewer braces, light bell, and medium throat. I suspected the schmidt would be best to try first.
