I was lucky enough to acquire a Paxman double descant through Jerry Merrill's daughter's agent. Whew, that's complicated. He acquired it from Tony Chidell, who very kindly has shared it's history with me. He had it custom built, designed by Merewether and built by Bob Paxman. One was for Roland Berger of Vienna, the other for him. It was his primary instrument in the London Phil, London Symphony, and a Bach group he was playing with at the time. This is the era of the Star Wars recordings, so most likely played in Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. The Bb main crook is being reconstructed, otherwise completely, playable in the F/F Alto configuration. An amazing instrument. The agent in this case was Hornucopia, in San Carlos, CA. Very knowledgeable shop, with great repair, and wonderful selection of quality, vintage instruments only. No new ones, no slackers. If you're ever around that area, check it out.
