Hi, I have recently purchased a new Paxman Academy double and am really struggling to play it - it is an upgrade from my previous Yamaha and chosen because it was lighter and more suited to my smaller frame, as well as the fact that I made a good sound in the shop, however now I am really struggling with even the most basic pieces with really poor intonation and my tuning is atrocious and I have no idea where to start fixing it.
I'm finding it all really disheartening at the moment as pieces I could play perfectly on my old horn now sound thin or raspy an I'm splitting every other note.
Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Could be a few things: 1) just hit a slump, which sometimes happens 2) getting used to the whole new feel of it 3) the mouthpiece. I have a great new mouthpiece which basically improves all of my notes except for high B and C. Took a while to get used to how it played across my instruments, especially on my descant horn (which should probably have it's own MP anyways). You're running into, I suspect, the opposite. You have a new horn which does not perform the same way on your mouthpiece as the older instrument. When I stepped up to a new horn, my teacher at the time reassigned me all of the first book of Maxime Alphonse to relearn on the new horn. Worked pretty well.

Just out of curiosity did you switch from a Kruspe to a Geyer wrap? If so that could have been part of the problem.
