After getting extremely invloved with The Producers and getting to go see it on Broadway, I fell in love with the idea that an acting career might be something I'm good at (When I was younger, I was known for my actor impressions, but ever since I moved to a new school in the fifth grade, well, let's just say they didn't take kindly to new people [I'm still known for my quiet nature at this school to say the least]). Anyway, I took all of those career tests, and I got acting as a good job to consider. After a while, that dream kind of fell away, and instead I'm pursuing a composing career (hopefully it won't change again). I wasn't really sure how I would get to be an actor, I just kind of thought that was what I was going to do.

My degree is in musical theatre, and I've done a lot of community theatre, some professional theatre, and a WHOLE lot of educational theatre. The way one becomes an actor is by needing to do it more than breathing, and doing every single show that comes along, and giving up everything from food to your car to do it. Otherwise, don't even bother, because it is so difficult to make a living at it. I knew from the beginning that my place was as a director in educational theatre, and I've had a blast doing that for many years. When I was actively working in theatre, though, it was difficult and sometimes very discouraging. I always tell my students that unless you HAVE to be an actor, it's a great hobby. ![](../images/smile.gif)
