I disagree that the saxophone is hard to get a good tone out of. I played for 2 1/2 years, and people tell me I have a great tone. But, I think the trumpet sounds better than the saxophone.

Exactly what I am talking about. I`ve been playing all types of Saxes for about 8 years. People say I have great tone also but you can always...ALWAYS improve your tone. Just record yourself (or something) and then listen to someone other than Kenny G and you can tell a difference. Its the design of the saxaphone and the way you play it that can make it difficult to sound good. Each time you put your mouth on the mouthpiece its going to be different sound that comes out. Its because you adjust to the other around you.
I have also been playing trumpet for about 4 1/2 years and other than not being about to play as fast, my tone quality is exactly the same. Your embeshure (or however you spell that) is basically the same each time you put your mouth on it, because there is basically only one way to produce sound from a trumpet.

I think it`s easier to learn
the saxophone over the trumpet.
I`ve played the flute, clarinet,
baritone, trombone. Since the
trumpet and the baritone only
has 3 keys ((so you have to
rearrange you mouth to get a
different sound)) i think it`d
be harder. ((that`s just my
opinion!!))

Yer good luck thinkin that trumpet ambrachure is easier than sax, try adjusting your mouth forom multi-phonic "g" to multiphonic "b-flat" and then back to solid high "b-flat" ... saxaphone is much harder, and it has a mversitile note range with altissimo and multi-phonics, not to mention, can you pla ythe drums are your trumpet I can play them on my sax !!

Im a trumpet player but i think the sax is easier to blow in and harder to play cuz of so many buttons but the trumpet is easier to play cuz theres so many less buttons but harder to blow into so i think there about even but the trumpet takes a little more blowing skills and sax takes a little more button skills

how bout we get a reply from someone ho plays more than 4th grade sax or trumpet, cus you ppls who hav just started dun know much about the amount of effort it takes to play a higher note range on wither trumpet or sax, personal i think sax is more difficult because of the different ways to play, on the other hand, if your just going to play normal, read the piece sax, then trumpet is more difficuly

Reasons for playing sax    21:07 on Sunday, June 13, 2004

I play flute in marching band, bassoon in concert band, frontline in indoor percussion, piccolo for fun and tenor sax in jazz band. Out of all of the switching instruments I`ve done swiching to tenor sax was the coolest and easiest ever. If you are switching in high scool I would definately play sax because there is a lot less compatition and the people who play sax are normally really cool and laid back. The real reason I switched (as stupid as it was ) is because this guy I liked play sax. Whatever you decide to choose do it because you like the instrument.

I have always loved sax music and would love to learn to play. I did play the trumphet in highschool and a little in college. In looking to get a sax, would the alto be best one to start with?

I`ve played the trumpet for 4 years, and I picked up the tenor in 3 days. with a sax u have basically your entire range immediately except for 1 or 2 notes but it takes years on a trumpet to get a good range. The sax may have more complex fingerings but the lip and air movements required for a trumpet are 10 times harder!!
