they both have their easy and hard points to play their os no way to tell which one is easyer with one person because if you play one you get the basics down but the hard part is your full chromatic from bellowing low a to screamin high c but that wont come till high school when you actually know how to play well

i believe that this thread is wrong to begin with. I think that both have thier ups and downs playing wise...people who play the sax believe it is harder...people who play the trumpet think that is harder.

personally i think it is whatever u desire ur always going to have a forte maybe the sax maybe the trumpet

ok, i`m too lazy to read the entire thread but, the saxophone is the easier instrument of the two BY FAR... the trumpet is way harder to start on than the saxophone.. the saxophone all ya hafta do is figure out the embouchure n blow while pressing a few keys... simple.. the trumpet, ya gotta figure out how to get the embouchure, the figure out how to use more pressure to get different notes, and it`s basically really hard... the clarinet and the sax are the easiest to start on IMO... but of course, at some point, all instruments get equally hard b/c each instrument has it`s weird flaw that makes it hard, and of course, once you`ve got the fingerings and embouchure down pat, the music gets hard.

i chose bassoon, b/c it looked cool and i thought the embouchure would be easy... but wow was i wrong... the bassoon is still amazing, but there are way too many keys... a sax has like 2 thumb keys, a bassoon has around 13... heh.. the keys are soo far apart, way farther than the clarinet i`m used to, and you have to overblow to get the high notes, like a flute... like wtf? aint there an eaier way to do all this? the bassoon is still cool tho... haha... at least it aint as hard as a french horn.. =)

I have tried to play both the trumpet and the saxaphone, and the trumpet is soooo much easier to learn to play, but to develop the skills takes a lot more time in the trumpet.

I can name more trumpet greats then sax greats. Being somewhat of a music fanatic in jazz now. For instance, Louis Armstrong, Sy Oliver, Valaida Snow, Ovie Alston, Doli Armina, Tiny Davis and others. Their more talked about then sax players. I guess because people think the trumpet is hard and hear them play it so easily, they deserve all the honor they great. To hear jazz, swing, bebop trumpets blare is so beautiful, it went along with that era, the happiness, loudness, all the good stuff. The trumpet, sax, trombone, all are the backbone of music and is needed to hear those beautiful sounds together.

i think saxaphone is really good and simple and usually sounds much better than trumpets because trumpets have a hard time getting the right pitch so stick with a saxaphone

I didn`t know how to play either instrument but I wanted to play the sax. I tried both the trumpet and the sax and I loved how the sax sounded the trumpet was to loud for me so I like the sax better.

Ok, first of all, the only way you could compare the sax and trumpet is if u PLAY both instruments.

Someone said that trumpet is harder, and started to say trumpet has less keys but you have to memorize all the notes and their fingerings, and saxophone has like 2 thumb keys. lol, Shows how much you know about both the instruments. Dont go looking for sympathy becuase you feel your instrument is harder, or want brag that you have played a difficult instrument. You cant make judgments on an instrument you "think" you know. I dont want to be mean, but Im trying to make my point.

I agree with the others, how could you "learn" an instrument in just 5 or 10 minutes?? It takes YEARS to really play an instrument well. I personlly enjoy both the trumpet and the sax. Just dont pick an instrument that everyone else says is "easier" becuase its not. They might not have even had experiences with that instrument. They could have just heard a classmate play a song, and judged then. Whatever instrument you pick, no doubt you will have to work and practice very hard. Good luck all you musicians!
