Hi all I really enjoy playing jazz music on the flute and I was thinking of joining this big band that are looking for new players, but I was wondering if anybody out there knows whether big band arrangements usually contain flute parts? I don`t want to look like a twit by waltzing in with my flute and someone telling me that they don`t have any music for flutes. Thanks

So, pop along and have a chat to the band leader about joining.

No, traditional big band arrangements do not include flutes in the ensemble. I have heard newer big band charts that have flute soloists, but the flute is not usually a regular member of a jazz ensemble. If you already play the piano, you would have better luck getting into the band on that. Or, you could take up the saxophone. It is the most similar big band instrument to a flute in terms of fingerings.
Good luck.
