I'm looking for some kind of accompaniment(spelling?) that I can play along with for practicing solos. I play trumpet. Does anyone know of a website where I can find such a thing for free? I've found things with MIDIs, but it drives me bananas to play with that after a while, so if you know where I can find actual background music, that would be appreciated.

Yes, I know I can't spell.

Get any of the Jazz Improvisation Series Approaching the Standards by Dr. Willie L. Hill Jr. (It's not free, but it's great.)

In case anyone else needed anything like this, I found a good site with a lot of these tracks.

are some good-sounding free mp3's that work for my purpose.

Look at Ralph Patt's web site for backing tracks and charts with chord changes:

You can play along with jazz standards such as Take 5, Summertime, Take the 'A' Train, Misty, Johnny One Note, and How High The Moon. As far as where to get the music to jam to, I think your best bet is playing alongside recordings. Hope this helps!

I've had difficulty finding things like this too. I've resorted to playing to the various programmed rhythms on my keyboard before.
