well, i had a yamaha tenor sax, model yts-23 ever since i started and it never failed me. never leaked. great sound for a student instrument as well. I loved that sax. and played it for 5 years until i was suprised this christmas with the intermeadiate model. good luck, but remember saxophones are all about preference. My style, could be completly different than yours. always try a sax before you purchase. and if they don`t let you go to another store. my faithful music shop always let me try whatever i wanted, necks, mouthpieces and saxes, so i could get just what i wanted.

i would go with selmer - they have a full sound, great reaction, and they are comfortable.
the yahamas if played aren`t comfortable at all, and the sound quality isn`t great.
Yamahas tend to be made for marching. they are shinny, and light, they don`t have great sound but it doesn`t matter, because their are lots of instrumentalists out there on the field.
Selmers are better for concert band and jazz.
I perfer old horns they have lots of soul, they`ve been broken in, and they tend to play better. Good luck.
