Sorry to burst everyone`s bubble, but Crazy Train is a rock song, written by the band Black Sabbath (which included Ozzy Ozbourne). I never heard of a jazz band arrangement of this piece until the thread starter said he was playing one, and I seriously doubt anyone would think of arranging it for an orchestra.

Btw, this Crazy Train arrangement you`re playing in your jazz band is not really jazz. It`s just a copy - someone trying to make a rock song sound like jazz music. I`ve seen many other examples of this (eg. Eye of the Tiger, Louie Louie) that have been arranged for jazz ensemble. If you want to hear some real jazz, then buy some bebop or cool jazz recordings. If you want to know what jazz is, then try listening to Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, etc.

Jazz albums are a bit hard to come by, because not enough people (in my opinion) respect this great musical form. Once you find one, and sit down and listen to it, you won`t regret it. Some of the newer jazz being performed is pretty good too. Diana Krall, Brigham Philips` Big Band, Sandro Domineli, Pat Metheney, etc. are some names you should check out.

I hope that wasn`t too long.

Thomas
