Who in their right mind would admit their ignorance, stupidity n` defeat?!

Miles Davis was one of the most influential Jazz musicians of all time - there`s some verbal candy-floss for you. Go look up more about him on your friendly neighborhood browser.

Hey, first don`t even go here on this site if you don`t know who Miles Davis is and as far as Miles Davis solos goes, just try to be original in your playing.

PLEEAAASE! Man, we should start a special thread for people who have a clue. We`d call this thread "Can someone tell who the heck is Thomas Edisont". I mean it`s ok if you don`t know about Miles as long as you only play hockey, and as long as you don`t come on the jazz forum. Cause how can we have a conversation about jazz if we have to explain what instrument used to play Parker, and what`s the difference between a trumpet and a bari sax.
Secondo, concerning the solo transcription, why don`t transcribe yourself, it`s not so tuff and it`s one of the best way to learn jazz.
Hey guys, listen to James Chance and the Contortions.

Come on people! Alright, I`m surprised myself that there are people in this forum who don`t know who Miles Davis is, but you still shouldn`t attack them for their ignorance.

Sounding a little intellectual here, the person who originally wrote this post could have made a simple typo (the d is right next to the s on the keyboard... yeah, now you don`t want to read what I have to say.) But I think you all should help this person.

Obviously, this person likes Miles Davis enough to want to get a transcription book. I mean, I think it`s OK if you don`t know how to spell the name... it`s if you like the music, which many of us do (whether it`s his classics, or his later fusion).

Now to answer your question... I honestly don`t know too many books. I know out there somewhere there`s a transcription book for the album "Kind of Blue", with note-by-note transcriptions of all the soloists on every track. I don`t own this book, but I`ve heard of it.

And that one guy who said that you should try transcribing on your own has a good idea. However, it can be frusterating, especially dependent on what song you`re doing. I suggest starting out on one of his more lyrical solos, and once you are more comfortable transcribing, try some of his harder stuff.

In case you want to introduce yourself to him... Miles Davis` song "Spanish Key" is featured on the Collateral Soundtrack.

That movie is awesome.. they soundtrack is also cool... it has a jazz/rock vibe

Greetings!

I`m sure everyone would know of these possibilities but still, here are some links which could be really helpful for beginners or others equally , i guess.

And personally no one gets me everytime, like Miles does. There`s something about this man with the horn.

I`m obsessed with this man, because he once released
" Sketches of Spain" , which contains an `Adagio` passage from Rodrigo`s "Concierto De Aranjuez", which i believe holds more sorrow than any other single solo i ever heard.

And even more astonishing is the fact that he tried it "Live at The Carnegie Hall " alongside Gil Evans and his 21 piece orchestra & delivered a brilliant version, again. Playing a Rodrigo concerto Live!! Now that speaks volumes about the man.

Here are some of Miles` recordings i belive every jazz listener should have in their collection.

In a Silent Way
Kind Of Blue
Sketches of Spain
The `58 Sessions feat. Stella By Starlight
The Blue Note Years
Bitches Brew
Birth Of The Cool

...

well i could go on & on....i can never get enough of Miles`.

some other artists who followed Miles` direction. These guys are no less musicians than the man himself.

Clifford Brown
Freddie Hubbard
Donald Byrd
Lee Morgan

Also check out some :

John Coltrane
Cannonball Adderlly
Chet Baker
Charlie Parker
Dizzy Gillispie

Phew!!

i really hope that`s helpful.

Atleast one day of the year all musicians should just put their instruments down, and give thanks to Duke Ellington.”
