What d`you mean? Jazz was already a genre before any technology came out replacing instrument. On the recording level, the technology helped put jazz on the map, maybe, but jazz music have always been a "live". When you go see a jazz concert or a jam session, there`s an interaction between the artist and the public. Plus, it`s all about improvisation and spontaneity, so there`s a magic that you can`t see and hear on a cd. So jazz didn`t NEED technology to develop as a genre. It maybe helped jazz, as it helped any kind of music, to be officialized, to become in a way immortal because it,s on a disc, but anyway jazz is a mortal thing, when the music`s over, there`s no coming back.
Electronical instruments and sampling made things change, and music never been the same after, so sure it changed jazz music too. But, it didnt helped jazz, jazz only continued with it.

The introducttion of new instruments and sounds came with technology too, like Jimmy Smiths and the Hammond Organ..
..Miles Davis brought fusion which used a lot of electronic instrumentaion and effects (including electrifing his horn) check out In a Silent Way onwards , Bitches Brew anything from 1969 to mid 70`s
Theres lots of people mixing `electronic` music with jazz and sampling jazz lines etc but I`m not the authority on that

As you might have noticed...I LOVE jazzy stuff. It is just so fresh,so "non-main-stream".I think if it wasn`t for the roots of good music I would not be here.I,to tell you the truth was never a huge fan of jazz, untill I started hearing it in a totally different form. But it IS jazz.Weather the instruments are live or not,to me that is not what defines jaz music.I don`t think you would discard one of your very own jazz albums for not being played live as you listen to it.You see, it was not until I heard this music in a new "revised" resurreetced" (not sure why) form, that I became interested. You shoud keep in mind that,in modern music today, there is an ongoing battle between music that is "underground" and music that is commerical. You gotta love someone even if they are somewhat selfish, who makes music simply for themselves.Music that is pure. That`s where jazz comes in.
I think very highly of jazz music because, more often then not it is extremely spontaneous. And someitmes careless.I feel that I TRUELY learned about music and making music the day I discovered jazz.It may seem like I am defining jazz with a definition of one of my own,but who cares?? That`s the way I see it.That`s the way I like my jazz!
If it werent for technology (I`m a tad young ,I simply would not be here. bye
