Looking for jazz piano music...
All right, I`m a jazz piano player, and I`ve had classical background. Um... there`s a lot you can do to cross over to jazz.
One thing to definitely do is listen to the great jazz pianists. I suggest trying Bill Evans, Dave Brubeck, Duke Ellington, Bud Powell, Herbie Hancock, and McCoy Tyner (there`s a variety of jazz pianists right there, and you can check out their different styles of music).
Also, maybe you can get hold of a fake book. It will have the melody and chord changes to many famous jazz standards.
One book that I don`t have but a lot of people do have is called the "Jazz Piano Book", which I don`t know the author off-hand, unfortunately. If you don`t know how to read chords or improvise, this will definitely help you.
There`s another book called "Jazz Conception", which are jazz etudes composed by Jim Snidero. They`re supposed to give you ideas on how to improvise and comp.
One really great series, though, is the Jamey Aebersold series. There are over 100 books in this series at this point. Each book has about 8-15 songs (melody, chord changes, and scales to help you improvise). It also comes along with a CD, so you can play along with it.
E-mail me if you have any questions... I`m open for suggestions!
