Hi, gies.
A problem has been bothering me since the last time i saw a trumpet in a music store.
I smoke. A lot. I`ve been smoking for 6 years, and now I`m 22.
A strange idea popped in my bored, grey-stained mind - could I learn how to play the trumpet, or the sax, given the smoking problem. Will my lungs survive the preasure. And if I decide to quit smoking, wil I be able to play hard those mesmeringly beautiful instruments?
Please advise me. Thank you in advance.

yeah, man go for it.

you already know the risks of smoking and all that so lets not go there.

Just about everyone in jazz smoked and worse in their day, mile`s voice is nearly inaudible because of it. Smoke is even a part of the `image` of jazz. unless you already have major problems breathing or exercising than you should be fine, esspecially if you quit. Talk to a doctor if you want to be sure.

You should have no problems with trumpet or sax, but if you play trumpet, should go for a small bored instrument, as it won't leave you short of breath.

The larger the boring, the more air pressure required to play, which would not be advisable for a smoker.
