I`m a junior a principle clarinet player in my band. We`re playing Blue Shades for our Christmas cycle right now. I`m playing the Eb clarinet and its a beast! The other clarinets are also having alot of trouble with it but it is such an awesome piece! have fun with those metronomes!

I`m a senior and my band is playing blueshades this year. I love it. I am first chair and play the insane solo. Its extremely difficult but I can play it with ease.

I performed Blue Shades last year with my high school band while I was a freshman. I must say, for clarinet, it has to be one of the most exciting songs in modern history. I enjoyed it, and yes it is a challenging peice for band, but its definitly possible for any high school symphonic band to put together.

It's awesome, end of story.

Not really jazz though. Based off it, sure, but everything's written out. It's going to be hard to the classical players, but if you're a regular jazz clarinetist, the solo is a comfy mix of jazz and classical.

Qoute from Ricky:"I think immature little 7th graders should learn more about music. It is a grade 5 piece for UIL. THe Texas All-State Band played it and if you know anything about Texas you would know we have the best musicians in the country"

Where did you come with this?

"P.S.
Never insult Frank Ticheli. He`s a personal friend and i hate it when people talk trash about him and oh yeah...My high schoo band teacher named the song Vesuvious for Frank....BEAT THAT!!!!

Yea, sure and my mom named October by Eric Whitacre...
