Hello, I`m a high school freshman trombonist and many times in the past I have considered whether to participate in solo and ensemble festivals in my area. I never have because I don`t take lessons. But there is a festival coming up and I have been pondering something for ages. Usually, at a solo festival, you have to play a written piece. But my skill lies in jazz improvisation so I am wondering if festivals like these allow their participants to solo improv instead of written. If anyone knows the answer, your help is greatly appreciated.
