Im kinda new to jazz, but would love to find more music along the lines of a track called "Piranha pool" by `Blue Rodeo`. The first minute or two of a single piano playing is just great. The track tails of at the end as im not a great fan of the vocalists voice but the piano at the start is just perfect.

Any suggestions of similar jazz piano solo`s would be great.

If you`re new to jazz, listen to Louis Armstrong #1. Also listen to Duke Ellington and Charlie Parker. These are the 3 biggest jazz influences you can listen to. Also, look for people who play your instrument.

Yeah u shud definitly start with the original jazz gr8s. I suggest G Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzjerald. The last 2 are gr8 when they duet.

I`d like to thank you all for your comments, and ask for some more help!
I`ve got hold of and listened to many of the artists listed above, but I finding some of the tracks a bit busy. I`m probably being very picky but I`d really like to find some simple plain but still cool and relaxed sounding piano solos (I`m thinking slow, late-night, funky, one man piano tracks).

If anyone has any ideas, I`d really like to hear them (even if you wanna tell me I`m way off base!)

Some people don`t like her and say she isn`t v. good, but, Norah Jones... Her album is absoloutly brilliant. Masterpiece! She`s very smooth and relaxing.

Just like Karl said, I would definitely get "Kind of Blue". It`s an "influential" jazz album, and it has Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Art Blakey, and Charlie Parker in it.

I would also definitely get a Dave Brubeck CD. I have the Ken Burns Jazz- Dave Brubeck CD and I`ve listened to it a bunch and I`m still not sick of it. I started jazz band last summer and the first jazz CD I bought to kind of get the feeling of jazz was the Dave Brubeck CD. You`ve got to give him credit for his incredible song "Take Five."

Anyways, if you like something totally different from your regular 4/4 key signature, go for Brubeck`s Time Out album. It`s full of weird 7/4, 5/4 , 9/8 songs. Interesting note is that one of the most recognised songs Take Five originates from this album.

Brubeck is pretty square if you know what i mean. I f you`re looking for something simple, groovy and a little bit funky, try the album"Cantaloupe Island" by Herbie Hancock. norah Jones is great too.

Try Diana Krall
I especially like her version of Billy Joel`s "Just the way you are" from the album "Live in Paris". Check it out!

Not to be a bitch, but in my opinion, Diana Krall is fake.
Image, that`s it. The upper-class fussy woman that drink red wine and listen to jazz. A cliché. She`s not bad on piano and she has great musicians with her but she contribute to give to jazz an elite image. Jazz is not for a higher social class, or a higher mentality, it`s just music, crap. So iT`s fine if you like her but i really had to say that she really doesnt help things.
