To me, it either blows, or sounds the same. Classic rock is the way to go!

Classic rock is the only way to go given that the new stuff is well pointless and lacks any creativity! Seems like any guy with ProTools or Acid Pro can loop together a new song and sell it as rock today!

Maybe music as become too much of a business and less on creativity! I think all music suffers greatly from that...even Christian Comtemporary/rock has fallen into the trap and has become the overly hemogenized music that lacks the feeling that it once had....

THEN we can throw in the new labeling of rock such as Emo, Screamo, Indie, Powerpop, Alternative, Metal, Heavy Metal, Garage, Gothic, Punk, on and on and on! Crap...does anyone just listen to Rock these days :-)

I have been around for a long time in the music busines, mostly in the pro-audio side and I have worked with the best and the worst! But I came to know that in each decade (60`s, 70, 80`s 90,s and now), the bulk of rock music reflected the current events and the passion of the young culture of that time. There are always fringes, but the vast majority of music reflected current events, feelings and trends.

What worries me is that the current rock music, if it reflects the current culture, is frightening. It would suggest that todays youth is self centered, worries excesively about image, labels everything and thus feels the need to fit in one on them, is hateful and mad, lacks respect for the fellow human being...especially women, hates their parents, killing is an option, crime is an option, beating people up is an option. Scary stuff! Then you add in the fringe music like Emo or Screamo and you add in the wimpy, I am sad, my girlfriend left me, I have no back bone and I am a wimp, music!

Think about it, how is it that the stars from the 70`s and 80`s and even the 90`s can come back and make platinum albumst today? Their music, even if dated, is a far cry better and more enjoyable that the crap that is put out there today. Why is it the rock is loosing market share to Soul/Rap/Urban, Country and Pop?....people dont like it anymore...it reflects less of their lives.... todays rock music grinds away in a 3 minute loop and lacks even a simple screaming guitar solo! Oh the singers scream/burp/cough into the mic at increasing levels of distortion ( I think some are not even singing words, just making noises to sell cd`s), but that certainly makes it hard to sing along to, and it lacks any musical skill or talent.

My favorite rockers...Aerosmith, Soundgarden, Metallica, Lynard Skynard, Godsmack, Led Zep, Pat Benetar, Kansas, Yes, Rush, Old Ted Nugent.....I could go on!

im a big fan of old rock n roll and i do like most of the people here that the new rock music is kinda too.. commercial and not creative. however, music evoluates and change, so in a sense its normal that the bands that are formed today want to have their own new sound and try new things.. they are many good bands out there that are new we just need to be open to them. i mean if someones always listen over and over again to guns n roses, queen and metallica (good bands by the way) its sure that they will have more difficulty to open to new rock. but theres the white stripes that are doing a good job, alkaline trio, the arcade fire, the greenhornes, the killers, nada surf, nine inch nails, rooney, wolf parade, bloc party, U2!... maybe in a couple of years those bands will have become items of music we never know.
so what i think is that there is a lot of sh*t out there being make in music (emo.. dahhhhhh) but time goes on and we have to look foward. but never forget old school rock of course. they are roots.
