yeah dam straight with the poser comment. for most young "emo" people these days its just an identity thing a couple of years times when it fades intot he abyss like all crap music they be onto the next fad what ever it will be...maybe even jazz...bu ti serouiusly doubt it

emo is the emotional side of punk... it came from the late 80s early 90s bands that were known for having "emo"tional breakdowns during their shows. since that became popular from bands like boy eats world and other early emo bands like that the music industry expanded the genre to encompass vast amounts of varied types of music to sell more records... many of the members shoved under the emo banner have a similar look black hair covering one eye boys wear tight jeans and shirts usually in all black and wear thick rimmed glasses
emo is just the new cool way to say depressed and 'misunderstood'

It's funny that the ignorant people in this thread are all "Audioslave, Coal Chamber, Ozzy, blah blah blah." That music is nothing but boring, screaming noise by people with nothing to say.

Emo is an overused word. It's like how people go around using "fetish" when they like something a lot. Look it up in the dictionary, it means way more than "to like" something. To not like a band simply because someone labeled them "emo" is !****!ed. The only reason people hate emo right now is because that's what seems to be popular. Bands that people consider emo today really aren't. Think of Dashboard Confessional, Jimmy Eat World, Sunny Day Real Estate, Jets To Brazil, Weezer. Their music has an underlying feeling of meloncholy, depression, etc. FOB and Panic and the others you people are bashing is more pop-punk, like what Green Day and Blink-182 were for kids in the 90's.

The only two genres that I would say really suck are country and rap.

Sorry if I offend anyone. But I like a lot of music, but cannot and will not listen to country or rap.

Rap has no musical aspects what so ever.

There are no musical vocals, there are no instruments, and there is no talent.

Rap is basically a computer repetition of an annoying beat with a big black man singing a melanchy tune about sex, drugs, and being beaten by his father as a young boy.

In the simplest of terms, rap is way for jamming one's culture down another's throat.

I don't personally like those two genres, but that doesn't mean i can say that they are objectively crap.

Haha has anyone seen that new Mac/PC commercial? I'm not sure if it's the newest, but I just saw it and it made me laugh. The PC is saying how the kids do all kind of crap with him like download music and burn movies and play games etc. And at the end, he turns around and sighs and says "I have to go listen to some emo."
