almost if not all of modern rock or any since the 1980`s have been killing the genre heres a timeline
1940`s-rock first appears starting very low
1950`s-it rapidly shoots up starting a music revolution
1960`s-drugs are introduced mainly psychedelics and it reaches it`s peak
1970`s-slowly declines
1980`s-with hair metal and others a huge decline begins
1990`s-goes even lower than the 1980`s
2000`s-little light is left in the genre with siht like rap and pop takin over

Don`t be so pessimistic. I don`t think rock is dying, I think it`s expanding.

things move. its the way it is and the way it has to be. i hate pop and rap music too.. but i dont think rock is dead. it evoluates.. thats how i see it. if you look music with an old eye you will be for sure disapointed. if music hadnt change since the last 40 years.. would it be better? i mean there has been innovation in rock n roll and i think thats not bad. copy over and over again the same genre for many many years it just becomes boring and not interresting.
so.. yea. but if you hate alternative rock.. well i guess thats your choice

kyle, thats a horrible inaccurate timeline. rock and roll barely started taking off until the late 50s and early 60s with such well knowns as Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, etc.
by the early to mid 60s, the Beatles became big, and in 1965 i believe came to America, starting the British Invasion. It wasn't until 1967 or so that bands truly started experimenting with drugs.
the 1970s were probably the greatest years of rock. this is when the allman brothers band became big, steve miller band, srv, eric clapton with cream, led zeppelin, black sabbath, pink floyd, all your bands that you care for so much despite the fact that you weren't born until 20 years later.
the 1980s saw a decline, although ac/dc and aerosmith hit it big these years.
the 1990s saw an entire new alternative movement growing
