HELP!!! question on Beethoven sonata op. 27 no2 (moonlinght) third movement    17:52 on Saturday, April 26, 2003

ok-- I`ve been playing the piano for quite a few years, but I (unfortunatly) put it down for awhile. When I was a kid, my piano teacher had taught me the moonlight sonata-- all but the third movement.

I started playing again recently, and decided to learn the entire sonta, including the third movement. MY GOD this is hard. Anyway, the first six measures I`m not having too much problems with-- I`ve almost got it up to tempo. The seventh and eight measures are KILLING me.

In the seventh measure, the RH plays a c#-1, f#-1, a-1, c#1, another c#1, and then continues to the (f?) chord. The next two measures are similar. My question is this-- what is the proper fingering for this passage? I am using schirmer`s version of this, and there is no fingering markings. The thing that is tripping me up is the double c#1. The most natural fingering sequence for me is: 1[c#1-1], 2[f#-1], 4[a-1], 5[c#1], 1[c#1]... and then continue with the same fingering sequence. However, I just cannot get this to sound smooth when playing at tempo/near tempo. What am i doing wrong? Do I just need more practice on this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

...I realize it`s been a month since this topic was originally posted, but if you`re still looking for assistance of some kind, I`d be happy to e-mail you a .PDF version of the 3rd Movement that`s been transcribed with quite a bit of helpful fingering.

Just let me know!

Absolutly.
I`ve been working through it, andI think with a touch of pedal I`m getting it, but that would be great.
E-mail it to me at jglass02@optonline.net.

thanks.

what exactly do you need? The fingering for the second movement is pretty straight forward.

Nah, it`s not the fingering that bothers me (although that qould be quite nice too). I simply have no sheet music for the 2nd and 3rd movements at all...

We would like the third movement (with fingering) also, and the 2nd movement if you have it! We have the first movement, but haven`t found the 2nd and 3rd.

Thankyou sooo much! Please e-mail to nixond@charter.net

That`s a URL to a PDF version of the third movement. I need some help because I don`t know what the little x is in measure 8... I think someone once told me it meant two sharps or something?

The cross symbol does indeed denote a double sharp, Pianoperson - an indication that its accompanying note should be played one whole note higher than it`s been transcribed (in the case of the eigth measure, for example, play the double sharped F as a G natural).

Hope that helps!
