what is everbodys favourite period in classical music.
mine is the classical period. i don`t know why i guess i like the fact that it is simple and almost predictable which is why i dislike later music as it it is more complex an unpredictable. some people may disagree but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Well, I guess the only period in Classical music is Classical...but nevermind.
I prefer Baroque, myself. Handel and Telemann are my favorite composers.

I know Classical music as the music written between 1730 and 1820. I tend to think of Hayden, Mozart, CPE Bach, and Beethoven, although Beethoven assisted the transition from Classical to Romantic. Most people however, think of instrumental music when they hear the word "Classical".

I like Baroque to listen to, Classical to play, Early Romantic to play and Late Romantic to listen to. I like everything really!
BTW has anyone considered the 20th Century classical music? Styles like serialism and minimalism are so cool. They`re different so people avoid them but it`s just a continuation of the history of music and I think it`s so sad that we`re neglecting our own styles that will one day be classed with everything else as "classical".

Emmy,
Re: "I know Classical music as the music written between 1730 and 1820."
We learned "1750 to 1800". Obviously these dates are extremely approximate, there was of course a large overlap, there are always those who buck the trend, and so on, but "1750 to 1800" represents (at least) a clear numerical rounding off. What does 1730 to 1820 represent?--bearing in mind, for example, that J.S. Bach was writing very un-classical Baroque music to his death in 1750, and so on.

Well, when I looked up the dates for the different time periods, I found 1730-1820 for Classical. It`s possible that the source wasn`t too reliable, seeing as all I did was do a search on Google a while back. There aren`t any music history classes offered in my school (or area, for that matter). All we do in band is practice music. We don`t research composers much.
