While I can't say much in support of Elgar's music, I must defend Tschaikowsky: His first piano concerto may have been ill-received, but everyone must remember that it was written during the time of him struggling with his homosexuality the most. He had to create a "fantasy-world" (quoting a psychologist) in which he could thrill the audience, but apparently it didn't work as well as it should have. "... is a flop," -- Funny? I think not...
