Sorry to people who love him and his music.... but....
his music is not actually that good, its all la-de-da and lets be happy and jolly, after all theres composers like beethoven who are full of passion and actually there music has a lot of drama in it. you can picture mozart skipping happily along to his music in the feilds, but, you couldnt really picture beethoven doing that could you?
i shouldnt really put him down as i couldnt compose to save my live, and he was a genius prodigee child, but his music is to happy and really annoys me.

Yr are partly right and also so wrong. Yr right abt Mozart`s work being rhetorical, but yr wrong to criticise that his work is no good. And u really shouldn`t compare 2 different composers like that. And who says u can`t skip to Beethoven`s music? I`m sure that there is almost every kind of `mood` in all types of music by all composers. And moreover Beethoven is well known for his earlier infuation with opera forms, thus the whimsicality and lightness in some of his slow movements of his sonatas. Not all of Beethoven is `straum and drang`. If u think that Beethoven`s music is reasonably more `serious and substantial` than Mozart simply caz his music is more stormy...then I`ll also assume that u do not really know Beethoven, neither do u know Mozart. There`s this gallant, refined beauty in Mozart`s music, and that`s the character of rhetorical, classical music. Pls do not diminish Mozart simply caz u`ve only been exposed to a small of his minute and unimportant fraction of his output. His `Alleluja` and `Marraige of Figaro` still remains one of the most sought sfter pcs today. And pls do not be so obssessed with Beethoven simply caz u heard songs such as `Pathetique or Moonlight`. Beethoven is sure good, but I tell u, those aren`t the best music he`s written. And the best music he`s written needn`t be the most `moody` pcs. In short, music needn`t be moody to be `worthwhile`. Thank YOu.

Mozart often isn`t happy at all, listen to the Reqiuem (to take a famous piece) or some more of the many piano piece he wrote or why not the thing he wrote that sounds so alike Haydn that it`s named after him?
Much of Mozart`s music is reflecting his world and it wasn`t a happy world always. Don Giovanni, the Magic Flute, there is many movements that isn`t happy so you can go around skipping to it. I would think you have never, ever really listned to even the most famous of his works `casue then you wouldn`t be so fast saying he`s just writing happy music.
And Beethoven…
Well, Beethoven isn`t Mozart and shouldn`t be compared to him at all but if you must I would say Beethoven is the musician writing happy songs, or not happy but music most people can understand…popular music.

Yeah. I agree with Hemlock. Not everybody can understand Mozart, but everybody can understand Beethoven. But that doesn`t mean that they`re good or no good. And Mozart`s music is really not always `happy go lucky`. Listen to more of his substantial work b4 deciding.

It is a common misconception to think that Mozart`s music is all "happy". People without much experience of classical music often miss his emotional content, which is more subtle than, say, Beethoven`s.
A couple of examples
1. The Clarinet Concerto- the second movement is one of the saddest things you`ll hear
2. The 23rd piano concerto- the ending of the slow movement is utterly broken and desolate, which makes the 3rd movement sound that much more joyful.
You also have to remember that he was writing under the restrictions of his time, when people valued their own entertainment over the composer`s expression.

Great work Rachel! That`s a marvellous way to sum it up! The part abt writing music as entertainment for the rich and mighty mass. Good!

Both Beethoven and Mozart are great. I think Beethoven`s symphony is deeper than Mozart`s. On the other hand, Mozart`s Piano concertos (epecially those from no 17 to 23) are just unbelievably beautiful and some are extremely sad (No 20 for example). Some of Beethoven`s piano sonatas are just music from heaven (Appasionata, Pathetique, Tempest, Waldstein, Moonlight, etc). I am grateful that we can enjoy their music. I do not think today`s music (Rap) is even music compared to works of these composers.

ok mozart`s music is from the classical period. it`s meant to be like that however eine kleine nachtmusik was composed in a difficult time of his life but if he showed that in his music then people wouldn`t listen to it as any `different` music was controversial.

Oh my gosh. Michael Phelps is a FAR better athlete than Lance Armstrong. I mean, Lance Armstrong is good at riding his bike and all, don`t get me wrong, but Michael Phelps and his swimming is just so much more pretty to watch!

See how much sense that makes? Very little. All I did was replace composers with professional athletes. Both athletes are different and talented in their own ways. They`re quite different from each other, but that doesn`t prevent them both from being amazing.

I used to agree aboout Mozart lacking emotion but as I`ve found out more about his life I am realising that to write such happy music must have been a real struggle and he should be admired for that. YOu see, he was still stuck in the trap of being told by an employer exactly what kind of piece to write. It must have got really boring. Beethoven was one of the first self-employed composers so he wrote what he felt like. He had patrons but let`s be honest he didn`t really respect them that much.
