I am planning to get a piano teacher`s diploma and start my career for teaching both piano technical skill and musical theories. Does anyone know what I should need for preparation? Any other extra skills I should have in order to make my future life successful?

Welcome any comments
Thanks a lot

Maybe I sound ingenuous, but I think that in order to be a piano teacher one must be first a competent pianist, and better if one is also a true musician. Then one should to have pedagogical gifts. And if it can be added a deep love for music, we`ve a teacher of teachers.
My opinion is based on my own experience as an adult piano student, after being taught by 3 teachers all failing in fullfilling the above qualities. Specially I don`t recommend at all a piano teacher who doesn`t play the piano well.

Thanks for your comment

I am 21 now. I started playing piano when I was 4, In my music life I experienced ups and downs. In spite of that, I never even think of stop playing piano. My piano teacher said I have a good ear gift to listen melodies, harmony and chord etc. However, I need to improve my technical skills. And I just don`t wanna waste my talent and my passion of music (I am in skool and church choir too, and need to know the requirement of being a teacher and getting a teacher cert for future career (I am thinking of piano examiner as well ). Probably I am too ambitious but seems I have confident to fulfill it.

Thanks for keep reminding how to be a good piano teacher, I learned a lot from you. thx so much!

You`re welcome. Perhaps you should think in teaching first to intermediate level students, since beginners and advanced ones requires very experienced teachers. I`d also suggest you emphazise the knowledge of the repertoire. To me is a bit dissapointing to find that my teacher doesn`t know the piece I want to learn. Listen to many records, better if reading the scores jointly.

Surely you`ll find the following website quite useful: www.serve.com/marbeth/piano.html. It`s an excelent achievement providing a lot of advice about piano teaching. Its Pedagogy section answers many questions similar to yours.
