Hey one time i was playing(district festival, tuba) and I was thinking about the girl I liked sitting in the opposite role (Trombone chick) and then we entered the dramatic slow down in the middle of the peice, I had to pay attention, then I started thinking about one of my dreams, involved a cliff, sharp turn and a car crash all before i finished playing the peice, wierd??

Well most of the time, when I`m playing piano that is, I concentrate on the music. But during Spring Concert at my High School I was playing flute in the concert band`s performance and I wan`t really paying attention to the music, cause I was thinking about the hot guy playing tenor sax next to me and then he hit this really low note and I laughed. He gave me the wierdest look. i was so embrassed.

well when i am playing the piano i always think of something else (exept when it is difficult or when i am learning)if i don`t think of parts were i have been sad/embaressing/happy/inlove....(basicly marking parts of my life)then i am thinking of a battle of notes like: i play 3 A then the F gets angry so he (F) plays 4 times and so on....
real wierd when u think about it!!!

Now I sort of feel odd, because whenever I`m playing, I think just of the music. I play acoustic bass and electric, and the music is the only thing in my mind when playing classical or jazz. Sometimes, I think about the concert in general, but I never don`t wander or day dream.

I always try to pretend I am a member in the audience, hearing the piece for the very first time. I throw my mind completely to the music, try to stay aware of whats going on, yet try not to interfere with the music that`s coming out.
The former Cincinatti Symphony principal bassist Barry Green wrote a great book called `The Inner Game of Music`, devoted to musical pshycology and aimed to help amateur performers overcome stagefright, self-concousness, etc... while performing music. It helped me tremendously and I would reccomend it to anyone who finds the experience of giving live performances of music hard to accomplish.

I`m a singer, not an instrument player. But when I perform, unless the piece is really difficult and hard to understand, I fall into what Svaty pianist termed a "battle of notes" except a little different. Not quite a battle for me, but like two people are in me singing, trying to express a moment in my life. Usually, I don`t know what that moment is until the end of the piece, I just feel it and it slowly forms in my mind throughout the song, like they`re telling it to me, but they can`t really agree on how, so the discords are where they are both talking at once, and keychanges are like they`re interrupting each other. It`s really cool, and it is why I love to sing.
