This will be difficult for me to describe, but I`m giving it a shot. I`m trying to find the name of this song I heard and possibly some sheet music. I heard this little section played by a jazz/jam band, but I know it`s from a classical piece.
From what I have figured out, it begins like this:
G (1/4), E (1/8), F (1/8), G (1/4, E (1/8), F (1/8), G(1/4), A-B-C-D-E-F (all 1/8), E (1/4), C (1/8), D(1/8), E (1/4), C (1/8), D (1/8), E (1/4), E-F-G-A-B-C (all 1/8), B (1/4)... from here I`m having trouble figuring it out, especially since I don`t know the name of it to listen to it. My directions certainly aren`t the clearest, but you should recognize the sound pretty easily. I played it on piano to figure it out, but it was played on both guitar and violin by the band.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe it is in 4/4 time.
Sorry about the confusing notation, I can`t really figure out another way to type it out. By the way, the A-B-C-D-E-F thing starts at the A an octave BELOW the original G.
Also, the next phrase is similar, except it starts at the E an octave below and goes: E-F-G-A-B-C (all 1/8), B(1/4), G(1/8), A(1/8), B(1/4), G(1/8), A(1/8), B(1/4), G(1/8), A(1/8), B(1/4), D(1/4), C(1/2). At least that`s what I recall, obviously it may not be perfect - but you ought to recognize it.
Thanks for any help.

Is it "Cannon in D" by Pachelbel?

that`s definitely canon in d by pachelbel, either you or the jazz band have just transcribed it into c.
