Basso continuo - Musical Definition


Basso continuo - The figured bass commonly used in music of the baroque period. Typically played by a cello, or bass viola da gamba and a chordal instrument such as a harpsichord or organ. The numbers indicated next to the bass notes indicate to the chords to be played.
