The famous caprice for Violin solo in a minor from Paganini is such a seductive theme that a few years ago, I couldn't resist to make a set of 9 variations for clarinet and piano. It was in a period that I played with a Belgian clarinettist and wrote for him this piece in a idiom that goes from easy to difficult and from jazzy to minimalism. It's really chambermusic because the pianist has a great deal in the ensemble.
And last but not least: I would like to thank Mr. Paganini for his brilliant theme.
