Most people think of castanets and guitars when they think of native folk music from Spain. But in the mountains of northern Spain, free from the Moorish and Gypsy influences that shaped the music of southern Spain, bagpipes, violin and accordeon dominate the folk music traditions. This is a traditional wooden-shoe dance from the village of Bausen, in a remote valley of the central Pyrenees where my middle son, Allen, was born. He is now a freshman at Del Norte high school in Albuquerque, NM.
