The acciaccatura (Italian, Acciacare, to crush.)

The Acciaccatura is played rapidly on the beat of the principal note, which retains its accent.

When the acciaccatura is placed before a trill, it simply indicates the note upon which the trill is to commence.

When the acciaccatura is placed before the highest note of an arpeggio chord it should be played as follows.

When the principal note is the first note of the bar, and the bar line separates the acciaccatura from it, it should be played as follows.





When the acciaccatura is placed before the lowest note of an arpeggio chord, or of several arpeggio notes (in small type), the time of the acciaccatura should be taken out of the preceding note.
