Trumpet virtuoso who helped usher in the bebop era in jazz. Composed many famous standards including Night in Tunisia.

1942

Dizzy Gillespie's "Night in Tunisia" was written in 1942 shortly after Dizzy joined the Earl Hines's band. Together with Charlie Parker on tenor sax, the band was the first to explore the bebop style.
