x = don't play string
o = play open string
If the same fingering appears for more than one string, place the finger flat on the fingerboard as a 'bar', so all the strings can sound.

Examples of use
The 7th chord, also known as the Dominant 7th is so-called because it is formed from the 5th degree (or Dominant) of the scale. So in C major , the dominant 7th chord G7 resolves to C major

C

It's also possible to use the 7th chord as the dominant of other chords. For example, in F major, we could use G7 as the "dominant of the dominant". The notes of the G7 lead to C, which itself can then lead as a Dominant chord back to the tonic F.
